Caminos

WHAT IS CAMINOS?

CAMINOS – from the Spanish language meaning (a path of travel) road-journey.

Board of Child Care’s Caminos program provides safe, secure placement options for children who have recently migrated to the United States and are seeking opportunities for reunification with family as well as the chance to pursue their education and legal immigration cases. They are young and vulnerable, and have made the hazardous journey facing exploitation, abuse and human trafficking alone and have been placed in our care.

Why are they coming?

48% are fleeing violence from drug cartels and gangs other reasons include:

  • coming to find family members already living in the U.S.
  • to seek work to support themselves, their families, or their children.
  • they were brought into the U.S by human traffickers.
